The LA 2028 triathlon course will see athletes race from Venice Beach into the Pacific Ocean, marking a historic beach start for the Olympic Games. Organizers unveiled initial details on Wednesday, revealing a compact route through the iconic Venice Beach area that includes the beachfront bike path, neighboring streets, and the famous Venice Canals before finishing with a view of the coastline.

LA 2028 Triathlon Course Overview

The course is designed to showcase the eclectic spirit of Venice Beach while providing a challenging and spectator-friendly experience. Unlike traditional Olympic triathlons that start from a pontoon, the LA 2028 races will begin on the sand, with athletes sprinting directly into the Pacific Ocean. This marks only the second beach start in Olympic triathlon history, following the 2016 Rio de Janeiro events at Copacabana Beach.

The swim segment consists of a two-lap 1,500m course: an opening 1,000m circuit, a 25m run along the beach, and a second 500m swim. From there, competitors transition to a largely flat 40km cycling course made up of eight 5km laps along the Venice bike path and surrounding streets, including two technical sections. The run course will take athletes through the Venice Canals and finish overlooking the coastline.
