Rhys Muldoon, a former host of the iconic children's program Play School, was employed in the office of Tasmanian senator Richard Dowling. The Labor party stood him down after news.com.au revealed a string of sexist and offensive posts made on X (formerly Twitter) in 2022 and 2023.

In one post, Muldoon referred to Peta Credlin, former chief of staff to Tony Abbott, as a "strap on wearing fantasy for Liberals." Another post described her as "fetishised" and made crude references. He also used the N-word in a 2014 post and described Country Liberal senator Jacinta Price as a "quisling" for not supporting the voice to parliament.
Political Reactions and Consequences
Senator Richard Dowling said he stood down the staffer after becoming aware of the comments, calling them "abhorrent." The incident has raised questions about vetting processes for political staffers and the boundaries of free speech for public servants.
Peta Credlin has not yet publicly commented, but the posts have been widely condemned across political lines. The Labor party has emphasised that such behaviour is unacceptable and does not reflect its values.
