South Carolina Democrat Annie Andrews Aims to Flip Senate Seat 2026

Dr. Annie Andrews, a South Carolina Democrat and pediatrician, is now the leading candidate to flip the late Lindsey Graham's Senate seat after his sudden death. For over a year, Andrews built a formidable grassroots campaign aimed at unseating Graham, a Republican who defined South Carolina politics for a generation. Now, with Graham's sister Darline appointed to serve out his term, the race has shifted—but Andrews remains focused on the same mission: systemic change for South Carolina's families.

Who Is Dr. Annie Andrews?

Andrews, 45, spent two decades on the frontlines of America's broken public healthcare system, including 15 years at a children's hospital in Charleston. Her experience as a pediatrician convinced her that the problems her patients faced were policy problems demanding systemic solutions. This drove her to enter politics in 2022, and she now positions herself as an outsider running a campaign powered by people, not PACs.

The Campaign Shift After Graham's Death

Lindsey Graham's death at age 71 shocked the state. Andrews learned the news while dropping her daughter at summer camp. Her opponent changed from Graham to Darline Graham, but the core issues remain the same: healthcare, education, and economic opportunity. “The problems that South Carolinians are facing did not change over that weekend,” Andrews says. “My opponent will change but my mission remains the same.”
