Jump Start the Car with a Rope (Dead Battery) 2026

Start the Car with a Rope (Dead Battery), I demonstrate a way to start a manual transmission car with a dead battery.

We will not use jumper cables or push the car.

This trick is ideal for situations where you need to start the car, but there is no one to give you a push or a good start.

What you need:

• Manual transmission vehicle
• Hydraulic Jack (The more stable, the better)
• A rope

Step 1:

Raise one of the front wheels (if the car is front-wheel drive)

Step 2:

Pull on the handbrake and put the car in 3rd gear.

Step 3:

Turn the key in the ignition to the ACC or On position (depending on the car)

Step 4:

Wrap a rope around the raised wheel and pull.

If you are (strong) lucky, the car should start

Note: Will work best on gasoline cars. I tried it on a diesel, but it was too difficult to pull the wheel.

Video:

☠ Warning ☠

Will NOT work on all cars. Trying to start the car this way can be DANGEROUS.

That's incredibly dangerous... Should the Hydraulic Jack fail or the car falls, it will be under your vehicle as it stops, leaving you trapped...

IF you are desperate enough to NEED to do this method, do it as safely as possible so our paramedic friend doesn't need to tend to your crushed body.

Here are some Tips:

1. Use reverse gear as the gear ratio is best for starting and wind the rope accordingly. It is also much less likely to end up under the vehicle should the jack fail...
2. Lock the other tires, so that if the jack fails, the car will stall instead of heading for the nearest ditch/vehicle/fence or the person who just left your house to lend a hand…
