Donald Trump's approval rating has slumped to 34% as a new CNN poll reveals that 75% of Americans believe he is not focusing on top US issues. The survey, conducted by SSRS less than 100 days before the midterm elections, shows growing public discontent with the president's priorities and leadership style.
Trump's Approval Rating Hits Record Low
The latest poll shows Trump's overall approval matching his previous lowest point after the January 6 insurrection. Only 34% of respondents approve of his job performance, while a staggering 73% say he is out of touch with everyday American problems. This represents a significant erosion of support across key demographics.

Key Findings on Public Sentiment
The survey reveals widespread frustration with Trump's handling of critical issues. 74% of Americans say rising gas prices have caused at least some hardship, up from 63% in March. Additionally, 71% believe Trump has not done enough to reduce the cost of everyday goods, a sharp increase from 58% a year ago.

|---|---|---|
| Overall Job Performance | 34% | 66% |

Why Trump's Focus on Self-Aggrandizement Hurts Him
Americans are overwhelmingly critical of Trump's personal projects, including a taxpayer-funded White House ballroom and a ceremonial arch. Only 17% feel positive about these initiatives. This self-centered approach is driving down his approval, especially among independents and suburban voters.
Immigration Policies No Longer a Bright Spot
Even Trump's hardline immigration stance, once a rallying point, is now dragging him down. Only 39% approve of his handling, and 54% say he has gone too far in mass deportations. This shift is notable as the midterm elections approach.
Midterm Election Implications
With the Republicans expected to lose control of Congress, these numbers signal a challenging environment for the party. The poll suggests that Trump's focus on personal vanity projects over substantive policy is alienating voters. Only 38% consider him an effective world leader, and 57% say the 80-year-old president is not in touch with their lives.
